Dominica: The Government has finally passed the law amending Registration of Electors Act in the national assembly of parliament on Friday, August 29, 2025. This decision followed the request from the Electoral Commission to delay the start of the vote of confirmation process.
Earlier, the scheduled date to conduct voting was Sept 01, 2025. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit confirmed this and said that the Parliament has provided a very smooth, efficient, transparent and effective implementation of the electoral reform.
He highlighted that the confirmation exercise and issuance of a voter ID card to every confirmed and registered voter in the Council of Dominica.
PM Skerrit outlined the major concerns related to the commission in the Parliament on Friday. He said that the government has incited a number of reasons why they will not be ready for Sept 01.
Reportedly, as per the law, the commission have declared the commencement date for voting confirmation as Oct 01, 2025 to Aug 31, 2026 based on the SRO no.16 of 2025.
Dr. Skerrit also acknowledged the progress, achieved so far in Commonwealth of Dominica. He said that he should mention that he has been advised about the equipment required for the confirmation process that has been delivered to electoral commission. The centres were identified as the confirmation centres across Dominica.
Prime Minister of Dominica further expressed in front of the parliament assembly that he believes that by the time he is presenting this, they might have located a Confirmation Center in Woodford Hill and will identify a building there to rent out for this work.
He mentioned that they have completed counting of all twenty-one (21) constituencies across Dominica. Now, the commission is installing equipment and finalising the arrangements for staff.
Notably, the month of September will be utilised to train staff members and for launching the public education policies and sensitisation campaigns nationwide.
