President of United States – Donald Trump has now threatened Egypt. He said, US will cut off aid to Egypt if they will not take in Palestinians from Gaza.
Reportedly, Trump wants USA to buy and own Gaza. Egypt received $1.3 billion in US aid in year 2024 and $1.5 billion aid in year 2023, that made it one of the world’s largest recipients.
Considering this, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, Feb 09, 2025 that he is committed and owning Gaza but could allow sections of the war-ravaged land to be rebuilt by other states in the Middle East.
Donald Trump further added to his statement, “I’m committed to buying and owning Gaza. As far as, US rebuilding it, we may give it to other states in the Middle East to build sections of it. Other people may do it, through our auspices. But we’re committed to owning it, taking it, and making sure that Hamas does not move back.”
He quoted, “There’s nothing to move back into as the place is a demolition site. The remainder will be demolished. Everything’s demolished.” Trump mentioned that he was widely considering possibilities of allowing some Palestinian refugees into the US. But he would also consider such requests case-by-case.
Member of Hamas political bureau – Ezzat El Rashq condemned latest remarks by Trump on buying and owning Gaza, as the group stated.
Rashq added that the Palestinians will foil displacement plans as Gaza is not a property to be sold and bought. It is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian Land.
Trump spoke of permanently displacing Palestinians who live in Gaza and would create a ‘Riviera of the Middle East’. Last week, he floated the idea of the United States taking over Gaza and engaged in a massive rebuilding effort.
Statement by the US President was presented vaguely on the future of Palestinians. They then endured more than a year of bombardment by Israel, in response to an October 2023 attack by Hamas. It was very unclear, that under what authority the US would take claim of Gaza, as the announcement by Donald Trump drew immediate rebukes from several other nations.
Following this, President of Israel – Isaac Herzog state don Sunday that Trump was set to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and possibly the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, although he gave no specific dates for the talks.
Notably, Saudi Arabia has clearly rejected the Gaza plan of Trump, as many other world leaders have. And, the White House has not immediately responded to requests for comment as it was not immediately possible to contact the officials in Cairo and Riyadh.
