South Africa: The Mpumalanga Department of Education congratulates Nonjabulo Glorican Shabangu for being awarded the third prize in the category of Excellence in Teaching Natural Sciences in the 2022 National Teaching Award this morning by the Minister of Basic Education.
Ms. Shabalala is the Head of the Department at Kwa-Lodakada Primary School in Ehlanzeni District.
She holds a B Ed Honours degree in Natural Sciences. At school, she is responsible for material design and development, monitoring and coaching, and Project based Learning, Quality Management Systems and Project Management.
Ms Shabangu is also a qualified Assessor and is currently enrolled on an Intellectual Property course which enables her to teach learners about the dangers of plagiarism as they carry out their projects and also urges them to respect people’s properties.
She encourages her learners to join and participate in Science Olympiads, AMESA competitions, MST club activities, expo projects and organized field trips or educational tours.
This kind of participation equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out scientific investigations, projects and experiments in the classroom.
