Zambia: Eight people have lost their lives on the spot in a road traffic accident. The accident happened in the Kasama District in the late afternoon or early evening hours of Saturday.
The accident happened 19:30 hours after the vehicle that the victims were travelling in collided with another vehicle coming from the other direction The members of the community saw the accident and alerted the Police Officers who convened at the scene of the accident
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkhondya spoke of the accident with the memembers of the media. She identified one of the vehicles which were involved in the accident as a Toyota Corolla.
The registration number of the vehicle was AIE 6313zm. Festus Simbeye who is a resident of the Brown Compound in Kasama District was driving the vehicle. Further, the vehicle was carrying seven passengers at the time of the accident
The other vehicle, the Toyota Hilux belonged to Natsave Bank-Mporokoso Branch. This vehicle was being driven by Aaron Sampa who is the bank branch manager of Mporokoso.
The vehicle had five matches traveling with the welcome.
Munkhondya noted that the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Corolla could not manage a curve. This happened due to excessive speed after which the vehicle lost control, and collided with the Toyota Hilux.
The Hilux was coming from the opposite direction. Due to the impact of the collision, everyone who was onboard the Toyota Corolla died on the spot.
The Commanding Officer stated that occupants of the Hilux survived but sustained serious injuries. All six of the Hilux occupants were stabilized and taken to the
She added that both motor vehicles were extremely damaged due to the accident and police were making arrangements to recover both the vehicles from the scene.
The people who are injured in the accident are currently receiving treatment at Chilubula Mission Hospital. On the other hand, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Kasama General Hospital.
