The Ministry of Water and Environment, in collaboration with the International Institute and Environment (IIED) of the United Kingdom, is hosting a number of high-level events under the Least Developed countries (LDC), an Initiative that supports the LDC 2050 Vision that is “ All LDCs to be on climate-resilient development pathways by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050 to ensure societies, economies and ecosystems thrive.”
The events include; LIFE-AR Technical Advisor’s Meeting, LIFE-AR Peer Learning event and LIFE-AR Board Meeting.
LIFE-AR Initiative is a 10-year programme to support LDCs to strengthen their approaches to climate resilience and support learning between Countries. Uganda is one of the six front-runner Countries that will implement the pilot phase of the LIFE-AR Initiative alongside Ethiopia, Malawi, Bhutan, Burkina Faso and Gambia.
LIFE-AR was established through the signing of the LIFE-AR Compact by LDCs and Development Partners at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 25th Conference of Parties(COP25) in December 2019 in Madrid, Spain.
The events are being attended by Delegates from the implementing Countries, with Uganda being represented by the Commissioner Climate Change Department, Mrs Margaret Atheino Mwebesa and the Commissioner Water and Environment Sector Liaison Department, Mr Epitu Joseph. The other Representatives are the Development Partners supporting the programme.
The activities that commenced today are taking place at Royal Suites Hotel in Bugolobi and will end on Friday 8th July 2022, with a field visit to Kalungu District Local Government.
