Zimbabwe: An incident occurred in Hatcliffe Extension town and went viral on social media through a video. In the viral video, five women can be seen assaulting and undressing a woman whom they claimed that she was having an affair with the husband of their colleague.
The accused persons are Zelpa Kanduza, Natasha Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo and Olleyn Vinyungwi. They appeared before Harare magistrate – Evelyn Mashavakure, charged with assault, over the weekend.
All five women were remanded in custody on pending bail application. Their accomplice Mitchel Kariwo was the first one to get arrested by the police and was brought before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday, Feb 09, 2024.
Prosecutor Grace Mugocheke said that on Feb 01, 2024, around 1:00 p.m., at stand number 4088 Hatcliffe Extension Harare, the accused ladies arrived to meet complainant Alice Chaichai, aged 32.
Reportedly, Chaichai arrived later and was asked by Natasha if she was having a love affair with Zelpa’s husband.
To which Chaichai refused and answered that she had not been involved in such an affair. Her answer made the accused woman furious, who teamed up to drag Chaichai out of her house by holding her braids.
As per the sources, those five women brought Chaichai outside the house and punched her in the face by taking turns several times. They punched her all over the body and Chaichai was lying on the ground helplessly.
One of the accused persons, Zelpa went on to kick Chaichai countless times all over her body as others were busy in punching her.
The ladies crossed the limits when they stripped Chaichai of her clothes by removing her dress and tearing her skin-tight pants before leaving the complainant lying unconscious on the ground.
According to the reports, the court heard that a well-wisher went to cover Chaichai with a cloth as her eyes were injured and bruises occurred on her legs.
Chaichai then went to the hospital, where she was admitted for the treatment. She later reported the incident to the police which led to the arrest of the accused five women.
