PM Roosevelt Skerrit currently on week long China visit

The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit is currently on a week-long trip to China to celebrate 20 year of diplomatic ties.

Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit is currently on a week-long trip to China to celebrate 20 years of diplomatic ties. During the trip, Prime Minister Skerrit is accompanying his wife and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Melissa Poppone-Skerrit.

The aim of the trip was to honor the longstanding diplomatic ties between the two nations. The delegation led by the Prime Minister also consisted of several high level government officials.

The delegation of Dominica landed in China on Saturday and was welcomed warmly by the People’s Republic of China. The Prime Minister shared that during the trip, he will meet the president of the country Xi Jinpin, Premier Li Qiang and the Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, Zhao Leji.

The aim of the visit is to find ways to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations. During his trip, the Prime Minister will also hold talks with top business leaders. He is expected to attend the Boao Forum for Asia in South China’s Hainan Province.

On Sunday, the delegation led by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit toured the facilities of Huawei. The China-based company is one of the world’s leading providers of information and communications technology.

The Prime Minister shared his delight on having the opportunity to observe the cutting-edge business practices of Beijing based companies. The Prime Minister is expected to use much of the experience gathered during the week-long trip to china for the benefit of Dominica.

China is among the strongest allies of Dominica on the world stage. The country has helped Dominica in meeting several developmental goals. In an interview given before his departure to the People’s Republic of China, he called the country an all-weather friend.

The Prime Minister met the President of China, Xi Jinping on Monday and shared glimpses from the meeting on his social media. PM Skerrit informed that the leaders discussed the history and significance of their relationship with one another.

They further pledged to continue working on deepening the friendship through cooperations in different fields of development. PM Roosevelt Skerrit also met Premier Li Qiang and the Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, Zhao Leji.
