South Africa: The festive season healthcare programme has been a resounding success. The Premier of Free state has shared the success of the programme for the benefit of the people. The officials have shared that people traveling to Bloemfontein and going through the province to other destinations accessed healthcare services.
The people were given the opportunity to stop at clinics and convenience stops at major filling stations to get health support. The members of the community convened at the Bloemfontein’s Ultra City Pitstop on the N1.
The Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha Mathae was accompanied by MEC for Health Monyatso Mahlatsi. She encouraged travelers to always check their blood pressure, glucose levels, HIV status, including TB and STI.
These checkups not only help the travellers keep themselves safe, it will also help in ensuring that the other people on the road can also remain safe. The province provided a number of facilities and services as a part of the festive season healthcare programme
Other essential services which were available to the travellers includes condoms, lubricants and information leaflets. The festive season is one of the most prominent times for people to let loose and engage in unsafe activities such as sex.
This is why these services were distributed for the benefit of the people.
MEC for Health said that it was very important for the people to take care of their health and obey road regulations. The Member of the executive council also called on holiday makers and festive revellers to ensure that they have enough rest.
Different stakeholders like the National Department of Health; National Department of Transport; Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport; SAPS; Beyond Zero; Think; Seboka; Lifeline SA; Red Cross SA; Alliance Against HIV & AIDS (AAHA); Life Line; Shell Ultra City Management and many others mobilised their active support towards the amplification of the message of health and road safety.
