Gaborone: Ledumang Ward Councilor Thuso Khubamang of Thuso Khubamang Scholarship Award in collaboration with Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS) presented five beneficiaries with scholarships.
Speaking at the ceremony held Ledumang Kgotla, Khubamang said it is time the youth invest in paving their life for a better future. He explained that the Thuso Khubamang Schoolarship award is an initiative that was set up in 2017 with a group of 200 youths who were enrolled and graduated in Business Management.
Khubamang said a number of these beneficiaries are working in Hotel businesses, Ministries and other organizations while others have established their own businesses.
Khubamang said his partnership between GIPS started in 2021 with a total number of 5 beneficiaries. This year GIPS will also give another batch of 5 recipients some scholarship which will be fully sponsored by the government.
He said they are in talks with other institutions such as New Era College, Gaborone Universal College of Law, Botho University as well as University of Botswana in order to assist more youths.
Khubamang explained that his passion for giving back to the community started when he joined Boxing back then in South Africa and United States of America. He noted that he was inspired to assist his community especially the youth after realizing that the youngsters have a lot of potential hence started the Thuso Khubamang Scholarship Award.
For his part, specially elected Councillor, Honourable Seikise Lotty Manyapetsa appreciated the ideal effort done by Honorable Khubamang and GIPS. He said such noble gesture will go a long way in ensuring that the youth will place more effort in obtaining education and uplifting their lives.
He went on to reassure the community of Ledumang not to give up on their children. He said every parent should be accountable children or youth in the community. Honorable Manyapetsa said this will create a positive union within the community and will result in the youth being able to excel in all their future aspirations.
