Govt to construct 22 secondary schools in Western Province

Government of Zambia is constructing 22 secondary schools in Western Province under the Zambia Education Enhancement Project

Zambia: Government of Zambia is constructing 22 secondary schools in Western Province under the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP). The project is being funded by the support from the World Bank.

The officials have shared that the schools are part of the 120 schools being built countrywide under ZEEP additional financing. The schools will help the members of the community get access to quality of educational opportunities.

Shangombo District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Joy Hakabwandi says two secondary schools will be constructed in the district under ZEEP. He added that this is a huge development for the district in terms of the education .

Hakabwandi made the was speaking during an orientation meeting of the project implementation committee. The meeting was hosted at the Mboiwa Primary School with several officials in attendants.

“This project is overwhelming because for the very first time in Shangombo we will have two complete secondary schools which will have all facilities that secondary schools offer,” he said.

Further, Hakabwandi said the construction of the schools will significantly reduce illiteracy levels in the district as it will give children an opportunity to complete their secondary education.

“This project will help reduce illiteracy levels amongst children and the community because it will give them an opportunity to complete secondary school and further their studies at tertiary level,” he said.

Hakabwandi stated that completing school has been a challenge for many children because of the few number of secondary schools in the district.

“Our children face challenges of completing school because of the constriction with regards to the number and categories of schools in the district,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mboiwa Primary School Headteacher, Sitanimezi Sililo has thanked government for identifying Mboiwa as a beneficiary of the project.

“I would like to thank the government for considering Mboiwa to be among the two schools benefiting from the project,” Ms Sililo said.

She said the project will not only benefit school going children but also positively impact the lives of community members through job creation.
