Zimbabwe: The founder of Grace Family International Church – Evidence Chari is facing allegations of assaulting and threatening a woman who had given him a car to use and has been issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to turn up for trial today.
Following the case, Chari was brought before the court. He appeared in front of Harare Magistrate – Gamuchirai Gore on Friday, charged with threats and assault.
Chari was then remanded out of custody for trial commencement. The prophet and the complainant, Caroline Roberts, know each other.
As per the sources, the state alleged that on January 12, 2024, around 9:00 p.m. at Kingstone house, around the corner of Takawira Road and Kwame Road, in Harare, Roberts had a misunderstanding with Chari over her vehicle, which was involved in an accident whilst being driven by Chari.
Prophet Chari then went on to threaten Robert’s life and her family members by saying, “I will drown you and your family, do you know who I am? I am Evidence Chari, I am not picked on the streets of Zimbabwe like that.”
Chari allegedly invited his colleagues, who introduced themselves as people from the Office of President and Cabinet upon arrival. His colleagues were threatened to assault the Roberts and her mother. Roberts managed to calm down and Chari went away.
Proceeding further, on the second charge, the State alleged that on Jan 16, 2024, around 5:00 p.m. at the Main Post Office in Harare, Roberts came across Chari, and she tried to talk to him.
Roberts was by the open door of her motor vehicle, trying to resolve the conflicts that arose between them on Jan 12, 2024.
Then suddenly, Chari became violent and banged the door of the motor vehicle, which hit Roberts, and she got injured.
Chari then saw Roberts’ Frank Felix Nyeche coming from a nearby shop and started shouting to assault him. Roberts refrained from her friend to avoid getting assaulted, but Chari pushed her away from Nyeche with his hands.
Roberts and Nyeche then sought refuge at a nearby shop and sustained some bruises on her body. She later filed reports at the police after which Prophet Chari was arrested.
