Mzuzu City Resilience Coordinating Officer for Habitat Malawi, Benedeta Chirwa, presented the donation to the city council. During the handover ceremony, He talked about how the donation was important for the city.

He said the donation was made to support MCC’s goals in promoting proper waste management and disposal for people’s good health.

“We have noted that Mzuzu City is one of the cities which experience floods when it rains. This is due to improper waste disposal, which leads to blockage of drainage systems, hence the donation,” said Chirwa.

She added that besides the donation, the project trained some ward structures in the city in early warning system. The Strengthening All Inclusive Disaster Preparedness in Urban Areas Project supported the formulation of sanitation by-laws.

They also helped in the rehabilitation and cleaning of drainage systems inwards which are prone to floods. The people of Mzuzu have expressed their appreciation to the people who made this donation possible.

The major stakeholder, Habitat Malawi, has supported the country in promoting sanitation and better quality of life for the people.
