South Africa: The Reaction Unit South Africa apprehended two habitual thieves on Sunday. The arrest happened shortly after the suspects stole a clay pot from a business premise in Verulam KZN.
The reaction officers were on patrol when they noticed the suspects running from a business property on Todd Street in Verulam – KZN. The theft which led to the arrest of the thieves was executed in the late hours of the morning.
After seeing the suspects fleeing the property, the law enforcement officers called for backup and followed the males towards the Central Business District. After a brief chase, the officers apprehended both the suspects and also recovered the stolen clay pot from them.
The reaction officers then asked the victim the details of the incident. The suspects confirmed that they had previously stolen another clay pot from the business. They had first entered the business and stolen on Saturday.
At the time, the suspects had sold the clay pot at R80 to a passerby and returned to steal again when they were spotted for by the RUSA officers. The officials revealed that one of the suspects is a habitual thief who is addicted to Heroin.
The Reaction officers have arrested him on several previous occasions. The suspect has served his sentences at the Westville prison in Westville – KZN for many cases.
Some of the suspect’s previous offences include housebreaking & drug possession. The owner of the business where the robbery happened did not want to file a case against the suspects.
Consequently, the officials released the thieves without pressing any charges. The people of the country have expressed their disagreement with the owner’s decision not to press charges.
Social media users have expressed that the decision will encourage the criminals further and they may end up committing a bigger crime. The social media users noted that they find the actions of the owner idiotic. They believe that justice should have been served.
