Cape Town: Health Department of the City of Cape Town has relaunched its mobile x-ray service which will now include south area too. With the expansion of its geographical range unit, 300 clients can be assisted each month now.
Reportedly, the unit had undergone through repairs in the recent months. The Unit has also delivered a tuberculosis chest X-ray service across the city Cape Town that mainly included Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain and is occupied by the staff of radiographers and a clerk.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that it is fitting that the service is relaunched today, as it is World Radiography Day, which marks the discovery of X-rays.
According to Councillor Ross, this is an important development in medicine that has made it possible to identify a wide range of health issues and enhanced healthcare.
She mentioned that on this day they also honour the hard work of radiographers for their role in diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
Notably, the TB staff has booked clients for chest X-rays on a weekly basis and the truck will visit the clinic where the patient is. The X-ray unit is fully computerized and doctors are able to view X-Ray images almost immediately via a specialised system.
Moreover, this eliminates multiple trips to the clinic and treatment is able to begin as soon as possible.
Patricia Van der Ross highlighted that many people have to travel to a clinic or take off work and the mobile service will save them these costs. The service resumed at the end of October and without the help of radiographic imaging many health issues and especially TB will go undetected.
This is a non-invasive tool that can save lives’, Councillor Van der Ross. The theme for this year’s World Radiography Day is Radiograohers: seeing the unseen.
