Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos congratulated Hotel Verde Cape Town Airport for once again being named as Africa’s Leading Green Hotel at the prestigious 2025 World Travel Awards.
Reportedly, Hotel Verde has been awarded for the second time as Africa’s Leading Green Hotel. It is a powerful achievement that showcases the sustainability leadership of the hotel, and status of Cape Town as a front-runner, responsible for eco-smart tourism.
Considering this, Alderman James Vos said that this award is a win for the city and a clear signal that Cape Town’s tourism offering is a world-class, forward-thinking and future-fit.
He added that Hotel Verde shows that luxury and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. They are setting the standard and inspiring others to follow.
Hotel Verde scooped the award as a result of its eco-friendly practices that includes running on renewable energy, using advanced water-saving technologies and implementing a zero-waste-to-landfill policy.
Also, guests can even generate power while cycling in the gym, participate in weekly Earth Hour events, and earn in-house rewards through eco-friendly behavior.
Hotel Verde is the first hotel in South Africa to achieve Net Zero Waste status and the first in Africa to receive LEED Platinum certification. In order to boost the growing numbers of the City of Cape Town by attracting more tourists.
Alderman James Vos aims to publish Cape Town’s new Tourism Development framework later in 2025. Part of that plan means creating specialized campaigns, increasing direct air connectivity, and forging global partnerships with cities and tourism companies.
At the same time, the strategy puts a premium on value-for-money for local businesses, job creation, and responsible tourism practices that protect the natural and cultural heritage.
James Vos further added that their aim is to grow tourism in a way that delivers real, lasting benefits for Capetonians. And, Hotel Verde is proof that this version is not possible, it’s already happening.
