Cape Town: The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) arrested a police officer from the Plattekloof Department on rape allegations involving a six-year-old boy.
Reportedly, the incident occurred on ‘Youth Day’, June 16, 2024 and the police officer was put behind the bars on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
According to the reports received, the officer works in the Forensic Science Laboratory. He welcomed the young boy and his mother to his residence. It was during the visit that the man and the mother of the child consumed alcohol, which caused the mother to fall asleep on the couch.
As per the sources, the officer raped the child while his mother was drunk and asleep. The boy later confided in a community member about the incident that led to the case being reported to IPID.
Spokesperson of IPID – Phaladi Shuping confirmed about the incident, linking the sequence of the events and the subsequent arrest of the officer.
Following this the perpetrator appeared in the court before his arrest. The case has now been postponed and the new scheduled date is July 01, 2024, to allow time for a formal bail application. However, till then the officer will remain in the custody.
In 2023, IPID arrested another Western Cape police officer for the alleged rape of a woman in a holding cell. The woman was then apprehended in Citrusdal for practicing the assault and was detained in the early hours of the morning.
As per the narration of the reports, the constable the allegedly went into the holding cell and raped her. considering this, she reported the incident to another police officer who reported for the duty in the morning that day.
Although, the offending officer was detained in Piketberg and has appeared in the Clanwilliam Magistrate Court for the hearing of the case.
South African Police has now geared up to take strict actions against such crimes, considering the increase of the incidents. Such cases are affecting the local vicinity and concerning the safety of the residents.
