Zambia: Jacob Nyirenda- A local business entrepreneur in Mpika District says the manufacturing of school desks locally has helped in empowering youths. The business community of Zambia has applauded the government for taking the initiative to start manufacturing locally.
With the expansion of the manufacturing sector, the youngsters of the country have access to better job opportunities. This other members of the business and manufacturing sector have also come forward to appreciate the development.
Jacob Nyirenda of Bima Investment revealed that his company has managed to subcontract 16 youths. They are helping with the making of desks after the company was awarded a contract to make 3,000 desks.
Bima Investment Director Nyirenda said the livelihoods of the youths who once roamed streets has greatly changed. He indicated that most of the youths are now leading destiny livelihoods as they are able to fend for themselves.
The company director is optimistic about the outcome of the new development. He believes that with this opportunity, the youngsters will acquire skills that will help them in future ventures.
“So far we have employed about 16 youths who are helping us with the making of the desks,” said Mr Nyirenda
He praised government and local authorities for initiating the manufacturing of school desks in districts. Through this initiative, the district administration can strengthen their position in terms of the region’s economic prosperity.
The district has successfully reduced the numbers of unemployed youths by employing them in this initiative. Additionally, by manufacturing the school supplies, they can reduce dependency on outside organizations.
In line with this, Nyirenda said the development has rescued many unemployed youths from destitution. He pointed out that among the skills the youths are being taught is welding and carpentry work.
Nyirenda said he was impressed with the zeal demonstrated by the youths as they are eager to learn. The youngsters are also extremely happy to be given the opportunity to develop their skills and make a living.
The district is focussing on the development of the human resource and put them to good use.
