Botswana,Motswedi: Motswedi Junior Secondary School recently received 77,130 US dollars from the Government of Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project” (GGP). The grant will be used to construct a special education resource centre at Motswedi JSS.
Motswedi Junior Secondary School has been enrolling learners with special needs since 2011 and currently has 70 learners in special education.
When delivering the keynote address at the signing of the grant contract, the Ambassador of Japan to Botswana, Ohmori Setsuo, stated that the shortage of facilities has hindered learners from learning at their own pace, which is dependent on their special needs requirements and level of learning difficulties.
He also pointed out that with the construction of the Special Education Resource Centre, learners will have opportunities to continuously receive assistance with their special requirements and be able to study in a conducive environment.
For her part, School Head Motswedi JSS, Mpho Lesego, thanked the Government of Japan for investing not only in Motswedi JSS but in the education of this country by building the Resource Centres in schools across Botswana.
The School Head added that these are the projects that improve the quality of life of citizens. She further stated that the school enrolment has steadily been increasing over the last four years, and so are the numbers of the Special Education learners. Therefore, the project will aid the situation.
The GGP project includes the construction of a school block, with a dedicated classroom, sick bay, kitchen, bathroom with special toilets, and offices for teachers.
