Kenya: Port of Mombasa received two Japanese naval vessels – JS Bungo and JS Etazima from Mine Sweeper Division 3 of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force that have made their inaugural visit. The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) stated that the visit of vessels aims to strengthen bilateral ties and reinforce the longstanding partnership between Japan and Kenya.
During a reception of ceremony, held for boarding JS Bungo, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya – Hiroshi Matsura expressed the major commitment by the Japanese government to foster a positive diplomatic relationship and enhance collaboration with Kenya.
Matsura pointed to the Mombasa Special Economic Zone – Dongo Kundu as a prime example of steadfast support from Japan.
There, the acting Corporate Communication Manager – Jones Buchere represented the Managing Director Capt. William Ruto and extended their gratitude to the naval officers, by recognising Japan as a valued development partner in enhancing infrastructure of the port.
Manager Buchere there presented the first call certificates on behalf of the MD, to the captains of the vessels – Capt. Shininsuke Amano of JS Bungo and Capt. Takayuki Oda of JS Etazima.
Considering this, Ambassador Matsura was honoured equally with a plaque while commemorating the inaugural visit of the naval ships to Port of Mombasa.
Notably, the naval vessels are scheduled to remain at the port for three days. During their stay, the military officers will have the opportunity to explore Mombasa and its surroundings.
Deputy Governor of Mombasa – Francis Thoya and Deputy Commander of Kenya Navy – Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, also attended the ceremony.
As per Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), the Port of Mombasa keep on receiving such vessels on continuous basis. The port receives many vessels for which it also releases port performance outlook list for 14 days or two weeks, after the completion of every previous schedule.
The list considers the date of arrival, type and name of the vessel. All the vessels dock at the Port of Mombasa, to deliver their promised services to the Kenya.
