Botswana: The Minister for State President, Kabo Morwaeng has addressed grieving families, who lost their loved ones in the bus accident. Morwaeng is also a Member of Parliament for Molepolole North.
Minister Kabo Morwaeng provided an update to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident about the status of the dead bodies’ repatriation. According to the official, the all the bodies will be arriving from South Africa through Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.
The tragic accident which happened while the members of these families were on an easter pilgrimage. While enroute to their destination, the bus swerved off the road, resulting in the death of 45 individuals.
The only survivor of the incident was a ten year old who has returned home and safely reunited with the family. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased will be transported back after all the formalities have concluded.
After the bodies have been brought back to Botswana, the government will arrange a mass funeral for all the lives that were lost. The mass funeral proceedings will be held on Saturday 4th May 2024 in Molepolole Stadium.
The families of the accident victims and Dignitaries will proceed to Garanta graveyard for the burial program. The government had previously organized a national Memorial service to honor the lives that were lost in the accident.
The event was attended by a number of nationals who gathered to grieve with the families and support them in the hour of need
On Friday, the families will be given an opportunity to conduct their individual memorial services. The families will be able to honor the memories of their loved ones in their respective homes.
On the same day in the evening at the agreed time the bodies will be handed back to the government in preparation for the burial on the next day. Due to the state of the deceased bodies are in, there will be no viewing of corpses.
Only 44 bodies will be buried in Molepolole and the 45th body as per the family wish will be buried in Thamaga.
