Zambia: A 20-year-old man of Choma’s Kachacha Compound has committed suicide by hanging himself in the bedroom. The victim has been identified as Emmanuel Mutukwa, and the police officers found him in his sister-in-law’s house.
The father of the victim, who has been identified as Kayama Mutukwa reported the incident to the Choma Police Force on Sunday. According to his report, the incident may have happened around 09:00 hours and 10:30 hours in the morning.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka shared the details of the incident with the media. According to the Police officer, around 16:00 hours on Saturday, April 13 the deceased got K250 from his father’s shop in Mwapona. He informed his parent that he wanted to order biscuits but never came back.
Afterwards, the police officer claimed that the next day, the deceased went to his sister in-law house within Kachacha Compound. Here, he requested Nchimunya Mudenda to allow him to sleep, saying that he had some pressure.
At this point, the sister in law Mudenda tried to inquire what the issue was. However, the deceased could not disclose, hence left him home sleeping and went to church.
Further, the police spokesperson noted that around 10:30 hours, a man identified as Marsha Siavwelenga went to wash his clothes. He also lived in the same house and upon entering the bedroom, he found the deceased hanging from the roof.
He conveys that Police visited the scene and found the body of deceased hanging in the bedroom. He had used a chitenge material with no visible injuries seen and no foul play suspected.
The behaviour of the deceased before his suicide attempt suggest that the victim may have been a victim of mental health issues. The team has been investigating the cause of the accident and shared some details of the incident on their social media.
The people have expressed their sincere condolences on the loss of this life and hoped that the family has the strength to get through the tragic event.
