Zambia: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security has confirmed reports of an individual in Kalumbila District who has been doing residents. He has been soliciting money from residents in exchange for National Registration Cards (NRCs).
The government has been working hard to get the National Registration Cards to the various communities of Zambia. The people are being urged to get their National Registration Cards for the from the correct source.
The government has been warning people to steer clear of the scammers as they can try to mislead the people. The officers involved in the registratiom process are trained and enrolled into the programme through the right paths.
The fraudster posed as one of the members from said team and tried to extort money from unsuspecting people. Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer Mwala Kalaluka said in a statement that so far this man has not been officially identified. However it was also made clear in the same statement that he is not part of the authorized mobile NRC issuance team operating in the district.
In his capacity as the representative of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Mwala Kalaluka confirmed that the media reports are correct. The unidentified person misled the people in the district to believe that
The man was found due to the efforts of the Senior Chief Musele. He found the scamster and made efforts to get the money that he had extorted out of people back to their wallets. The members of the administration have applauded the chief of the community for his level headed approach in dealing with the fraudster,
The officials have suggested that it is important for the people to be aware of the the correct sequence of the registration. This is one of the most important reason for the administration to hos sensitization and awareness sessions.
The administration has appreciated Senior Chief Musele for his prompt action in ensuring the individual returned the money to the victims.
