Kanchibiya: Man commits suicide after brutally killing wife with axe

Zambia: A man committed suicide after brutally killing his wife with an axe in the Mutisamba Village of Kanchibiya District. The man was identified as a 30-year-old Rubben Lesa, who killed himself after murdering his wife with an axe.

As per reports, Rubben suspected that his wife, identified as 20-year-old Margaret Chama, was having an affair. The investigating officers have revealed that the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday. As per the reports, the couple was engaged in a domestic dispute.

The suspicion escalated, which led the 30-year-old to kill his wife and then later hang himself on a tree. The deceased used a red tie as a rope to hang himself after brutally killing his wife.

Kanchibiya District Commissioner Chrispin Chilekwa identified both the deceased and shared several details about the ongoing investigation.

“Lesa assaulted his wife with an axe around 02:00 hrs on suspicion that she was having an affair with another man.” revealed the district commissioner.

The couple had two children who are left behind after the untimely and unfortunate deaths of the parents. The village community and families of the deceased couple are mourning the death of their children.

The District Commissioner has since appealed to both the families to remain calm during this trying moment.

The district and local administration of the Mutisamba Village have extended their heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. The families in the village as well as the government officials extended their support to the families.

Mumbuwa Ward Councillor Sosten Sampa rushed to the scene after he received the information of the incident. He described the death of the couple as disturbing. He also said that the young couple have left their families devastated especially their two children.

Sampa advised that there is always a better way to resolve marital issues rather than killing one’s partner and leaving children and relatives heartbroken.

As per the most recent update, the body of Rubben Lesa has been deposited in Mpika District Hospital Mortuary. Meanwhile, the remains of Margaret were buried yesterday.

Notably, both the bodies could not be stored as Kanchibiya district currently does not have any mortuary services. The people of the country have also expressed their sadness on the incident through the social media.
