Botswana: The CEO of the Botswana Tourism Organization, Keitumetse Setlang attended the 67th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) and the 2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference. The conference and meetings were hosted over the course of three days, starting from July 22.
The three day event was hosted in Livingstone Zambia and focused on the Tourism Sector of Africa. Keitumetse Setlang was leading a delegation of Botswana Ministry of Environment & Tourism during the event. She was accompanied by the Acting Director of MET, Khutsafalo Tsile and Principal Tourism Officer Kabo Moeng.
The two officers accompanying the MET delegation were the distinguished speakers for the two events. The events welcomed tourism stakeholders from all over the continent. The leaders and representatives of various nations across Africa made their way to Zambia for the meetings.
The theme of the event was, ‘Promoting Africa to Unlock Tourism Investments and the Sector’s Growth Potential.’ The UN Tourism Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, was also present at the conference organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The aim of the conference is to highlight the immense and tremendous potential borne by the tourism industry of Africa. The conference is hosted every year and brings together crucial stakeholders of the sector.
The main components of the conference include, Brand Africa and Tourism Think Tank. According to the UNWTO, Tourism Think Tank is an exclusive forum for top executives and key stakeholders in Africa’s tourism industry.
The Botswana Tourism Organization said, the forum will focus on effective communication. They will work on generating ideas for top notch marketing, and branding strategies.
The aim of the forum is to enhance Africa’s image and rebuild market confidence after the staggering impact of the pandemic on the tourism industries all over the world. The attendants also participated in an Investment Session.
During this session, they had the opportunity to explore global tourism investment trends with a special emphasis on Africa. The attendants gained insights into the current tourism investment landscape and future prospects within the African context.
