Kenya: Kenya Forest Service (KFS) senior management team is meeting for a two day working retreat to harmonise their various forest management programmes and discuss best practices in the sector.
This comes in the wake of renewed interest in forest conservation and management following a directive by His Excellency the President to grow of 15 billion trees by the year 2032 and as a result increase the country’s tree cover to over 30% during the same period.
The senior KFS officers will discuss the opportunities and challenges in the management of our forests as well as best practises in the sector. Different directorates and departments are expected to present the status of the implementation of their programmes and activities and seek synergy for the effective delivery of the Service’s mandate.
When he opened the retreat, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Mr Alex Lemarkoko reminded the officers of the heavy task bestowed on the Service regarding the 30% tree cover campaign. He urged them to work as a team complimenting each other’s roles so that the Service can succeed as a whole.
He further urged them to familiarise themselves with the happenings in the sector so that they can be able to respond to stakeholder inquiries. The CCF reminded the officers of the requirement to uphold transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties, noting the public expected efficient and effective service delivery.
