Kenya: The Kenya Sports Ministry flagged off women’s cricket team of the country for the World Cup Qualifiers being held in Uganda. The matches will be hosted from December 9 to 19, 2023 where the team will face many champions from across Africa.
The ministry of Youth and Sports in Kenya has been putting in several efforts to support the various sports teams. Thus, the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Sports was heading the flagoff ceremony for the team.
The team recently travelled to Botswana for some matches, which they won successfully. The Kenya women also received the Division Trophy after their tour of Botswana. The country is extremely happy to see the success of women’s team in Botswana. Some social media users have shared their best wishes for the future matches.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Nnamwamba encouraged the team to perform well during the flag off ceremony. The CS reminded the women that it was 12 years since Kenya last flew the flag in the global stage.
CS Namwamba recollected the team’s success in the cricket universe, noting that In the recent years, it is on a downward spiral. He addressed the women’s team, saying: “You are the generation that will take us back to where we belong.”
The Cabinet Secretary is confident in the team’s ability to make the country proud.
He noted that his Ministry has fully supported this exercise and is optimistic to not only see the team at the World Cup but also the sport at large revived.
He wished well, the noticeably young talents, urging them to take advantage of the opportunity that could possibly launch their careers further, and especially through the flagship Talanta Hela.
The Coach and the Captain on behalf of the team, appreciated the Ministry’s support, promising a great outing from the team.
The team believes they can succeed in the qualifiers just like they did in Botswana.
Kenya will qualify for the Ladies World Cup slated for2024, should they finish in the top two from the Africa Zone qualifiers at Kyambogo Cricket grounds in Kampala.
Among the teams who will be facing each other for the two slots include:

- Tanzania,
- Botswana,
- Nigeria,
- Zimbabwe,
- Namibia
