Kenya: Kenya Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Lemarkoko, hosted a delegation from the Kenya Volleyball Federation (Kenya Volleyball Page) led by its President Charles Nyaberi at the Kenya Forest Service headquarters yesterday.
The Federation aims to discuss how they can collaborate to promote forest conservation through sports, especially volleyball, which is one of Kenya’s favourite and popular sports.
The KFS Volleyball team is one of the top teams in the league, having emerged 6th in last season’s tournament. The team also has five players in the national volleyball team, adding more prestige to the young team.
The KFS Volleyball team has already had an impact in the league through the introduction of a tree planting culture in all tournaments in which all teams participate.
The President, who was accompanied by the Federation’s Secretary General, Ismael Chege, the Treasurer Bernard Musumba and the KFS Team Manager, Inspector Wachira Gatuiria, appreciated the support the team has received from KFS, noting that it has enabled it to perform at the top level in the league including in tournaments outside the country.
Nyaberi said that as one of the top teams in the league, the Federation was looking at ways of supporting the team through training and sponsorship.
Alex Lemarkoko thanked the team for the visit and for supporting the KFS team, which has made major milestones in the league. He also pledged that KFS will continue to support the team and in fact, encourage talented young staffers to join the team.
The KFS team agreed that there was a lot the Federation could do to promote tree growth and, especially, the 15 billion trees campaign.
“We further agreed to formulate a framework of collaboration that will guide the promotion of tree growing through sports while at the same time nurturing talents in the game of volleyball,” said Lemarkoko.
