Steffan Horowitz, the famous director of African Creative Television (ACTV) in Kenya, paid a courtesy visit to the Kenya Film Classification Board on 12th February at the Board's Uchumi House offices.

Kenya: Steffan Horowitz, the famous director of African Creative Television (ACTV) in Kenya, paid a courtesy visit to the Kenya Film Classification Board on 12th February at the Board’s Uchumi House offices.

Danielle Odhiambo, American Centre Director, Public Diplomacy Section, also joined Horowitz in his visit to KFCB House. They both also gave highlights of ACTV’s initiatives.

Moreover, ACTV’s mission revolves around capacity building in the film industry, specifically training and upskilling the current generation of TV creators across the African continent by providing the skills and experience necessary to produce high-quality content that can compete on the global stage.

Kenya is among the four African Nations targeted by ACTV’s initiative, alongside Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. The initiative focuses mainly on the TV series component .

The KFCB team, led by the Corporate Communications Manager, Nelly Muluka, took the duo through the Board’s regulatory mandate, programs and campaigns, and all the filming requirements in Kenya.

Also deliberated upon were the existing production gaps in Kenya and how ACTV’s initiative can assist in bridging the same.

The Kenya Film Classification Board is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, mandated to regulate film and broadcast content in Kenya, with the key objective of protecting children from exposure to inappropriate content, as well as ensuring that content conforms to Kenya’s culture, National values and aspirations.

KFCB Corporate Communications Manager Nelly Muluka invites various television producers and Directors in order to teach the Department and to make them more talented.

Last week, they invited a local TV and Film Producer, Camillus Khisa, who taught about the filming regulatory requirements stipulated in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, as well as the other filming requirements in Kenya.

According to Nelly Muluka, KFCB aims to commit and create a facilitative regulatory environment to spur the growth of the Creative Economy in line with the Fifth Pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the Talanta Hela Initiative being driven by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.
