Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has participated in the annual Seatrade Cruise Global Conference and Exhibition 2025, that is underway in Miami Florida.
Reportedly, KPA has brought together the key players in the cruise industry from across the world. It was a four-day conference that offers a valuable platform for engagements on the status of the Cruise and Maritime Trade Industry and the future trends that will shape the critical sector for innovation and sustainability.
The 2025 Seatrade Cruise Global Conference in Miami Florida serves as a key platform for networking. It forged major partnerships for new opportunities along with the Cruise community. With this, the participation by Kenya Ports Authority comes at a time when the Port of Mombasa and Lamu Port continues to record a significant increased data in the number of cruise ships arrival by demonstrating the rising international interest in Kenya as a cruise tourism hub in the continent.
As per the sources, the debut of new cruise liners has added Mombasa as a port stop, included in their cruise itinerary. This also demonstrates the growing popularity of the Kenyan coast as a cruise destination globally.
Special effort is being attributed to the collaboration between KPA and Magical Kenya in implementing the Kenya Cruise Development and Marketing Strategy that targets around five million tourists annually by 2027 with Cruise Tourism. It has been identified as the highest potential segment for this significant growth.
Considering the sidelines of the conference, KPA delegation, which is led by the Managing Director Captain William Ruto. The MD has been accompanied by GM Corporate Services – Mr. Edward Kamau, Manager of Marketing and Customer Experience – Ms. Miriam Mwakundia who has engaged as the senior executives from the Port of Miami, KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Board in South Africa and the Centre for International Trade Development (CITD).
Notably, the discussions held were majorly focused on sharing insights on port management and its development. This also brought chances for exploring potential areas of collaboration.
