Kenya: The annual exhibition ‘Agricultural Society of Kenya’ (ASK) was hosted by Nakuru on Friday, July 03, 2026. There, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has demonstrated its leadership in promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable economic growth by winning remarkable eleven trophies at the event.
KPA won in eight categories, placed second in two and placed as third in one. These achievements highlighted wide-ranging contribution of Authority to the sector.
As per the sources, KPA won in the following categories, that includes:
- Best Stand Exhibiting the Most Blue Economy, Innovations and Inventions
- Best Government Stand Interpreting the Current Show Theme
- Best Organization that Promotes Community Projects
- Best Stand Demonstrating the Application of Environmental Quality Standards
- Best Large Trade Stand (Commercial and Industrial)
- Best Stand Displaying Initiatives in Provision of Viable Transport Services
- Best Local Stand in Strategies of International Trade and Exports
- Best Stand Promoting National Cohesion and Integration Development
The Kenya Ports Authority was also positioned at second place in the:
- Best Stand in Youth Activities, Empowerment and Capacity Building
- Best Non-Agricultural Statutory Board Stand categories
It also won in one more category and secured third place in the Best Stand Embracing Information Technology and Communication Systems.
KPA has always remained at the forefront when it comes to implementing cold chain logistics initiatives, to support the agriculture sector and facilitate international trading. With time it has introduced discounted port charges for export cargo. It has given farmers and exporters a competitive edge in international markets to deal with this.
Now there’s a dedicated green channel that gives fresh produce exports priority access for gate entry and handling at port facilities. It helps in managing the schedule and keeping cargo on time to ensure that goods reach their destination at peak quality.
KPA is also strengthening infrastructure of ports through additional reefer plugin points and other modern port facilities. Notably, these initiatives are critical for reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing Kenya’s position in global agricultural trade.
KPA Board Directors – Wilson Mwai, Ahmed Mukhtar and the General Manager Corporate Services – Edward Kamau congratulated the KPA team for the exemplary performance. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary – Mutahi Kagwe officially opened the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) 2026 show in Nakuru. He pledged a bold new direction for the sector with more focus on production and value addition.
Kagwe said that the government’s strategy is to secure the nation’s food supply and turn agriculture into a primary driver of economic growth through sustained investment. As East Africa’s main maritime gateway, the Port of Mombasa is crucial to this vision as it serves as the crucial entry point for fertilizer and other farm inputs. While it also handles agricultural exports to ensure that produced items reach international markets in top condition.
At the exhibition, Kenya Ports Authority stood out and took home eleven trophies after topping multiple categories. KPA Board Directors – Wilson Mwai and Ahmed Mukhtar, together with Corporate Communication Manager – Dave Jones Buchere, were presented with the trophies.
