Kenya: The men’s Volleyball Team of Kenya Ports Authority was today handed over the flag ahead of its departure for the upcoming Africa Club Championship scheduled for 17th to 30th April 2025 in Misurata, Libya.
Following this, General Manager for Infrastructure Development – Eng. Mathews Amuti handed over the flag on behalf of the Managing Director Capt. William Ruto during a brief ceremony at the Makeupa Welfare Centre. He extended his wishes and congratulated the team for its nomination, made by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) to represent the country during the championship.
KPA then, was qualified by virtue of its 2nd Runners-up position in the 2023-24 KVF Men’s National League Playoffs. The other two teams are General Service Unit (GSU) and Prisons Kenya.
Eng. Amuti urged the team to uphold high discipline standards during the games bearing in mind that they were the brand ambassadors for both KPA and the country.
He noted that the Authority was proud of the team and was looking forward to watching it register the improved performance in the regional assignment.
The team further jets out the country on Monday to make its fifth entry into the event that is marking the 46th edition. Team KPA under Head Coach – James Ontere finished in the top-10 last year in Cairo Egypt. The annual championship has been organized by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).
The General Manager Amuti lauded the performance of the volleyball team, considering the competitive continental assignments and urged the players to aim at the podium, in order to finish this year. He added that they shall closely follow up the performance in Libya as they also planned to host in a big way upon return with improved results.
Furthermore, Administration Manager – Catherine Wangare received the flag on behalf of the Head of Delegation – Geoffrey Kavate and assured the Authority and the volleyball fraternity that the team was upbeat for the forthcoming club championship.
Wangare said that the KPA team remained in a residential camp in Mombasa for vigorous training schedules that tightened the lose ends to attain the required standards ahead of the games.
Also, Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) assistant Treasurer – Moses Mbuthia commenced the team for its resilience and focus during both local and international competitions. He described the team as good and up to the task for the high-level club championship.
