Zimbabwe: The Zimbabwe Women’s Cricket team at the African Games has emerged as continental champions. The Lady Chevrons have dominated the Cricket Championship in Ghana at Achitoma Senior Secondary School Field on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
The Zimbabwe women’s Cricket Team has won the Gold Medal by playing the final match against South Africa, which was contested tightly and required a Super Over to determine the winner.
Zimbabwe scored total of 112 runs and 5 players were considered out as allotted in 20 overs. Whereas, South Africa scored 112 runs and 7 players were bolded out.
Moreover, in the ensuing Super Over, South Africa managed to score 2 runs, setting a target for Zimbabwe of 3 runs to win from 6 balls i.e. single over.
Reportedly, the all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu has been awarded the Player of the Tournament at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. Beating South Africa the teenager scored the winning runs in the Super Over to win gold for Zimbabwe.
Along with this, Zimbabwe wicketkeeper and batter Modester Mupachikwa was named as the African Games Batter of the Tournament. She played consistently with her bat throughout the tournament, picking up two Players of the Match awards in five games.
Following this, Lady Chevrons captain Mary-Anne Musonda and swimmer Demilson Cyprianos were chosen as the flag bearers for the official opening of the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The Zimbabwe team continued to shine at the Africa Games held in Ghana and made significant strides across various sports disciplines.
As soon as the news related to Lady Chevrons’ victory was unveiled, congratulatory messages were poured in from across Africa and the entire world, where the majority of the Zimbabwe diaspora followed the Africa Games closely via social media.
