Ethiopia: An Ethiopian woman aged 76 has given birth to her first child. The lady is identified as Embeyte Madhin Hagos who gave birth to the child with the help of IVF. She had been trying to have a child from decades.
Hagos who is also known as Medhin Barka, hails from Mekelle, which is the capital of the Tigray regional state in northern Ethiopia. She given birth to a baby boy for the first time that surprises many.
Reportedly, the region has been in war zone since November 2020, with parts of its territory who are still under occupation by the neighbouring Amhara regional state and Eritra, which is a foreign country, under the watch of the Federal Government.
As per the reports, an estimated one million civilians have been killed. Millions remained displaced internally and tens of thousands have sought refuge in Sudan and other countries. The region also faced ongoing political tensions and internal conflicts.
Moreover, Embeyte Medhin’s childbirth has been seen as a miracle by many in the region. Especially, after years dominated by the war news, ethnic cleansing, gang rape and instability.
Social media is buzzing with discussions about how a woman aged 76, could have conceived. As Embeyte Medhin explained that her conception was made possible through InVitro Fertilization (IVF) with the help of doctors at a hospital in India a year ago and she delivered the baby at a hospital in Mekelle.
Medhin stated that she was not convinced at all when she was told to conceive. However, it appeared that many in her family also found it hard to believe. A young from their family also remarked that nothing is impossible to the Holy Saviour.
Notably, some on Facebook have drawn comparisons to the biblical story of Sarah giving birth to Isaac at the age of 90. Dimtse Woyane shared the video footage that shows a large celebration and an interview with Embeyte Medhin Hagos during the baptism of the child.
