Laugh out loud at Jive Cape Town Funny Festival this month

Cape Town: Jive Cape Town Funny Festival has kicked off on Tuesday, June 12, 2024 for its month long run event that will feature local and international comics. The City of Cape Town is happy to be a proud partner of the 25th festival.

It is a funny festival that will host no less than 27 shows at the Baxter Theatre for a run and will conclude on July 07, 2024. The city celebrates the 25 years of Cape Town Funny Festival and delivering the comedy gold for all these years.

Reportedly, the schedule for the 2024 event includes the performances by the comedic talents, consisting of Dalin Oliver and Khanyisa Bunu. Also considered Dillan Oliphant, Sifiso Nene, Kagiso KG Mokgadi and Yaseen Barnes.

The American circus artist or comedian, Mario Queen of the Circus and British-Armenian comedic pianist, Kev Orkian returned to Cape Town, to join the likes of award-winning local performers, as well as Emo and Loukmaan Adams and comedy supremo, Alan Committie for the full run of the festival.

Considerably, Jaryd Pillay, who won the Jive Funny Championship, along with the two runners-up from the competition, it will also provide an opportunity to shine on the festival’s main stage.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that celebrating 25 years of the existence in the events space is a major milestone and Cape Town is proud to be associated with the festival.

It is a place where lovers of comedy go for a good time and a platform that has seamlessly integrated the local and international acts to foster the cultural exchange.

The programme for the year 2024, promises more of the same including laughs, flair and all-round entertainment. There are still some tickets available for those who are looking for an evening of belly laughs, added Alderman Smith.

Jive Cape Town Funny Festival was first observed in 1997, the festival has opened its stage to over 100 performers. The fest provides an opportunity to emerge comics over the last two and half decades.

The Funny Festival has become a global comic institution for the comedians such as Trevor Noah and Riaad Moosa. From Marc Lottering to Jimmy Carr, it has provided a great platform to them all.

Over the last period, the fest has hosted numerous talents such as Tumi Morake, Nik Rabinowitz, Alan Committie, Lee Marc, Adam Hills, Russell Peters, Paul Zerdin, Nina Conti, Tape Face and many others from across the world.

The long firm legacy of the Funny Festival is rooted in its ability to attract the globally recognised comedians, while also providing a platform to new comics, looking to take it to the international stage.

Jive Championships introduction has provided the funny festival with a wider pool of new talent to select for its programme. The championship, is held over eight weeks ahead of the main festival and has served as a showcase for emerging comics looking for a foothold in the industry. The winners get to perform on the main stage during the Funny Festival’s run.
