Botswana: The Minister of Minerals and Energy in the government of Botswana, Lefoko Moagi launched the Tlokweng 132/11kV substation project. The launch event for the project was hosted on Wednesday, with the leadership of the country in attendance.

The Tlokweng 132/11kV substation project houses some of the latest technology in electricity transmission and distribution. The team has shared some glimpses from the launch event where the Minister of Minerals and Energy delivered a keynote address.

In his address, the Minister spoke of the various ways in which the programme will help in the development of the country. According to him, the substation will enhance access to consistent and reliable electricity supply in Botswana.

He commended the Government of Botswana for its commitment to improving the lives of citizens. In this regard, he highlighted the recently initiated “Zero Connection Project” through Botswana Power Corporation.

He asserted that the project allows Batswana to apply for and receive domestic electricity connections at no charge. The project was hailed by community members across the nation, who shared their delight with its capacity to uplift people’s standards of living.

During the construction phase, the project also employed several members of the community. In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the initiative’s success, recalling the employment it had generated.

According to the Minister, 246 Batswana were employed in the project. Additionally, 22 citizen-owned companies were engaged in the successful execution of the initiative.

The minister highlighted that their expertise was instrumental in successfully completing the project. Further, the Minister appreciated the leadership of the Tlokweng for their support and appreciation.

He commended the Tlokweng leadership and Land Authorities for facilitating the project by providing land on which the substation stands. He further encouraged residents to safeguard the equipment and defend it from vandalism.
