Botswana Police Service (BPS) opened the upgraded Lekgwapheng Police Station in Molepolole on Friday. The aim of the upgrade is to make sure that the policing initiatives can reach the general community with ease.
The Botswana Police Service has shared some images from the launch event on their social media to commemorate this new development. The new station has been upgraded from a Police Post that was built by the Lekgwapheng ward community through volunteerism.
The structure is a proof of the community’s self-reliance and unity to respond to the increasing incidents of crime in the area. The project for the construction of the Police Post started in February 2010. The consruction was completed in May 2012 at a cost of around P400 000,00.
Minister for State President, Moeti Caeser Mohwasa delivered the officiating address for the people of the nation. The Minister said government is committed to creating a conducive environment that facilitates the delivery of service through allocation of Police infrastructure and necessary resources.
He said the upgraded station help the community and officials significantly in improving policing services in Molepolole.
The Molepolole is a major village in Botswana and has been affected by crime in the previous few years. This is mainly due to the area’s high-density population. The Minister, however also pointed out that the newly upgraded facility would complement the existing Molepolole Police Station.
Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe gave the overview of the project to the community members. She said Botswana Police Service (BPS) prioritises ensuring public safety and security.
The commissioner assured the people that the upgraded facility would have an increase in manpower of police officers. They will cater to many additional functions such as CID, Traffic and Gender and Child Protection. All the departments and functions will help in enhancing service delivery.
Commissioner Marathe said to increase the office accommodation at the facility, a caravan has also been provided to the officers. The Commissioner thanked the government for their efforts and support in making sure that adequate resources are allocated to BPS for effective policing.
