Mauritius: The government of Mauritius celebrated the 100th birthday of another centenarian on the island, Lilaotee Greedharry. The elder is also known by the nickname “Jasso Didi” among the members of the community. The newest centenarian of the island was born on 09 November 1924. She celebrated this historical milestone with her family.
The celebratory event was hosted at the Palma, in Quatre Bornes wherein several government officials and community leaders were present. The newest centenarian and elder of the island celebrated this milestone with family and loved ones.
The government of Mauritius highlighted that the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented the elder with a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203. The other gifts that the elder received from the government includes a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal.
The elder also received a certificate and an Electric Fan from the members of the government of Mauritius .
The senior Citizens Council gave the 100 year old a present and cash gift of Rs 10,000 on her birthday. The cash gift came from the National Solidarity Fund. Mauritius Telecom presented the elder with a special telephone service on the occasion of her hundredth birth anniversary.
The government of Mauritius said that the centenarian was born at La Louise, in Quatre Bornes. As per the 1924 and her father worked as a milkman. Meanwhile, her mother was a cattle breeder in the village.
Mrs Greedharry attended the “Baitka” regularly to learn Hindi. She was religiously married to her husband Seerkissoon Greedharry. At the time of her marriage she was 12 years old. The elder had her first child at the age of 15 years old.
The elder recalled that her husband was a General Worker at the Ministry of Works in the government of Mauritius. He passed away at the age of 62 in 1981. Lilaotee was also rearing cattle to help in the management of the household expenses.
The couple had six sons and three daughters in their lifetimes. The birthday girl has 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Greedharry has given the credit of her long life to faith in God and disciplined lifestyle and social services.
