Police forces in Limbe are looking for a man for the murder of a 32-year-old woman identified as Rose Machokolo. The suspect allegedly strangled the woman hailing from Mondiwa Village in Bangwe, Blantyre to death.
The police force has been unable to identify the suspect however, the suspect allegedly visited the deceased on Saturday, April 20 from Lilongwe. The suspect might have been an acquaintance of the deceased.
According to the Limbe Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sub-inspector Chibisa Mulimbika, the deceased was staying with her younger sister. They lived in the same house in the Mondiwa Village in Bangwe, Blantyre.
Meanwhile, on the day of the incident, the deceased told her to go and stay at their grandmother’s house, which lives in the same area. The victim’s sister informed the police officers that she had seen the deceased for the final time on the night of April 20.
However, she was discovered in a decomposed state in her house almost four days later on Wednesday afternoon. The discovery was made after some neighbours and the victim’s landlord noticed a repellent smell coming from the house.
Afterwards, the landlord called the police and a team of officers from the Limbe Police Station was dispatched to the scene. The officers reached the scene of the crime shortly afterwards and found the deceased, Machokolo lying dead in a decomposed state.
She also had a rope tied around her neck which may have caused the strangulation. The Police force is assuming that she was murdered on the day that the man visited the victim at her house. The body of the deceased was taken to the hospital for postmortem.
The postmortem report confirmed that the death was due to suffocation, secondary to strangulation. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to arrest the suspect and a manhunt has been launched to look for the suspect.
The motive for the murder has not been established by the police force.
