Zambia: Lundazi Town Council has handed over a market shelter and ablution block valued at K530,000 to the Chimutylu community. The construction for the market was completed through the capital component of the local government equalization fund.
The members of the community have called on the administration to provide this facility within the town. The market shelter and ablution block will add to the infrastructure of the town and add to the people’s standard of living.
The initiative is being considered extremely significant in terms of infrastructure growth and opportunities. Lundazi District Commissioner, Marjory Banda delivered a brief address at the commissioning ceremony of the market shelter and ablution block.
During the event Commissioner, Marjory Banda commended the Lundazi Town Council for working on the directive of the President of Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema asked the authorities to ensure that all markets should have water-borne facilities.
Commissioner Bnada has also asked all government departments to consider scaling up efforts towards service delivery to the people of Lundazi. She has called on the council to continue providing various services to the people of the district.
She also urged the Chimutyulu community to guard the facilities, market shelter and abulation block against vandalism. Meanwhile Lundazi Town Council Chairperson Golden Tembo also extended his gratitude to the government for the increased CDF support of K30.6 million in the year 2024.
Tembo further thanked Indo Zambia and Atlasmara banks for donating 30 waste bins to the Lundazi community. The donation will help in ensuring a clean and healthy environment in the community.
The councilor also agreed with Commissioner Bnada stating that the facility needs to be protected against vandalism. He asserted that it costs the government a lot of money to put up such infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Maona Godfrey said the Chimutyulu community was grateful to the government for considering their plight. He thanked them for addressing the situation by constructing the market shelter and ablution block.
He has since appealed to council police to ensure that there was no street vending in the Chimutyulu compound. The Chimutyulu market shelter and ablution has running water and is electrified to allow for extended trading hours.
