Zambia: Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu shared her concern on the increase in the number of child defilement cases in the district. The police service of the district has been receiving a concerning amount of defilement and assault cases in the recent past.
The District Commissioner has called the acts barbaric and inhumane. She made these remarks during a media interview where she commented on the state of affairs in the district.
She has shared that the crime in the district has been on an upward movement. The people of the district have shared that it is crucial for the crime incidents to come under control in the district.
The number of defiling and assault cases have become concerning in the district. According to the district commissioner, these incidents shed light on the inhuman acts of older men in the community.
The authorities also have to tighten the leash and increase their vigilance to discourage these acts of violence against minors. The Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu has shared that her team is working hard to come up with strict measures to prevent such acts.
According to District Commissioner Zulu, defilement acts destroy children’s dignity, trust and dreams. She has promised the victims and their families that further she will ensure that the victims are given justice.
She promised justice not only in the cases of defilement, but also the other crimes that are prevalent in the district.
The District Commissioner said that children’s assault is not only a crime but also shameful for the moral Society.
She has warned the perpetrators of the act to stop or else face the full wrath of law. Zulu also called for deliberate and strong efforts from all the stakeholders to protect the young children from the criminal act.
She has asked family members, parents and guardians to take extra care of their children so that they can remain safe and sound.
The District Commissioner’s comment on the increasing number of defilement cases shed light on the issue of Gender Based Violence in the communities as well as the whole country.
