Zambia, Lusaka: Lusaka Province U17 launched their Girl’s final squad list in which they will face Southern Province U17 Girls. The match will be held between Lusaka Province U17 Girls Select and Southern Province U17 Girls Select at OYDC Ground.
The squad was announced by the technical bench led by Coach Harriet Banda and Alex Chola.
This year’s technical bench will have exciting young goalkeepers. The list includes Harriet Tembo, formerly of Moving Eagles of Kaunda Square and now on the books of Misisi Queens United, alongside Annita Chomba of Young Green Buffaloes and the exciting Gertrude Nyangu of Young YASA Queens.
Defenders will be led by the hard-tackling duo of Jessica Mwenya and Tisa Mwale of Garden Youth Academy and Chikonaty Academy. While, the Misisi captain Brenda Mwanza, Monica Chikonde of Young Green Buffaloes, Veronica Mwanza of Red Lions and Ruth Chitambala will complete the defensive line.
In the middle of the park, the hosts will rely on the skills of Chikonaty captain Judith Phiri. Christine Phiri of Radar Queens is expected to ensure she provides enough cover for the backline in the holding role.
In contrast, the MOPEACE duo of Natasha Makina and Dorcus Phiri will bring some creativity in the middle of the park alongside the Marvellous Girls Blessing Maluba. Chirundu Queens’ exciting midfielder Chabota Luula will be other options for the technical bench.
The striking force will see Janet’ Jane Pencil’ of Young Green Buffaloes partnering with the likes of Hope Lungu of Ame Zam Tamanga Queens.
Whereas Ireen Mweemba of Marvellous Queens and goal poacher Mable Malunga of YASA Queens will be the players tasked with scoring the much needed goals in this early kickoff match set for 08h00 at OYDC Ground.
The match will be followed by a boys encounter involving Lusaka U17 and Southern U17 who will also be testing each other as a way to identify the talented future young starlets in both categories.
This will be the second meeting between the two provinces. Notably, last time they met in the U18 category was last year during the Inaugural 2022 Inter-Provincial Youth Games, which saw Lusaka edging Southern 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final before the hosts were crowned Champions after a 3-nil victory over Central Province in a match that was played at the same venue.
