Malawi: First Lady Monica Chakwera launches book, highlights women empowerment

The First Lady of Malawi, Madame Monica Chakwera has officially launched a book titled 'A Woman of Noble Character'.

Malawi: The First Lady of Malawi, Madame Monica Chakwera has officially launched a book titled ‘A Woman of Noble Character’. The launch ceremony for the book was held on December 1, 2023, at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe.

The first lady of Malawi extended her support to the author of the book, Pastor Rebecca Banda and appreciated her work. The First Lady of Zambia also shared her views about the book at the launch event.

In her remarks, First Lady Chakwera shared her favourite parts of the book. She emphasised that it is pleasing to note that at the centre of the book is a message that challenges women to discover their purpose in their respective societies, rise up to the occasion and embrace their potential as a trailblazer for the next generation.

She said the book also reveals to us how the church is tasked with raising a generation of women who are reliable and beacons of hope to the younger generation.

The First Lady praised Pastor Rebecca Banda for such a discourse to the gospel that the faith communities profess.

“I see this initiative as the beginning of a distinguished journey of financial freedom by many households towards participation in the achievement of the Malawi 2063,” she said.

She also admitted that the message of the book shares closely with a philosophy that the older generation need to leave a strong and lasting foundation for future generation.

After the book launch, Monica Chakwera challenged women in the country to rise and contribute towards investing in the youth. Additionally, she urged them to secure the desired future that they want to pass on to the generations ahead.

One of the objectives for the book launch book was to raise funds for the rehabilitation of the Haven of Hope training centre in Chitipi. The primary objective of the organization is to develop entrepreneurial skills for widows.

After the training, they can become active contributors to the economic growth of their families and respective communities.
