Malawi Red Cross Society has donated assorted Cholera hygiene kits to Lilongwe District Council. The donated was done in collaboration with the Farmers Organization Limited.
The aim of the donation us to help the district administration in the fight against the disease. The disease has been affecting many communities in Malawi. The officials have shared that they are dedicated to preventing an outbreak of cholera.
Director of Health services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Willson Chinga’ani attended a symbolic presentation of the donation. The handover was hosted at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe on Friday. During the event Dr Chinga’ani applauded the Red Cross Society and Farmers Organization Limited.
The Ministry of Health Representative lauded the Malawi Red Cross Society and partners for the donation. He hoped that the cholera kits are able to help thed district in mitigating the risk indicating it will assist in responding and preventing the spread of Cholera in the district.
“The supplies donated to the council are timely, as many cases of Cholera outbreaks are usually reported during the rainy season, as such, the preventative kits will, among others, assist in combating further spread of the disease”, he emphasised.
Red Cross Community Health Coordinator Francis Liyati also shared some images from the event. The official said the donation has added value to the cholera response by the district. Notably, the officials are enabling the council to respond quickly to the emergency situation. They can also prevent cases of Cholera in the district through their cholera kits.
Liyati further commended Farmers Organization Limited for setting up efforts to contain Cholera in Malawi, saying the initiative should extend to other districts in the country.
Farmers Organization Limited Manager Harry Sani has also shared his views. he termed the donation is a proof appreciation to their beneficiaries in the country.
“As an organisation operating in Malawi, we thought it wise to support Lilongwe District Council with various protective gears to prevent Cholera this rainy season, as one way of appreciating our customers “, Sani said.
