Man escapes unhurt from fuel tanker explosion in Nyimba District

Zambia: A 42-year-old man has reportedly escaped a narrow encounter with death after a fuel tanker in Nyimba district exploded. The officials have suggested that the incident happened on Tuesday February 27. The incident happened in the Renamo area along the Great east road.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii confirmed the incident through an official media statement. He claimed that the incident occurred on February 27, 2024 at around 13:30 hours

Commanding officer Liywalii identified the survivor as Joseph Sichone of Lubuto Township in Ndola. The victim was the driver of the fuel tanker which caught on fire. The officials of the country shared the further incidents on the

“We received a report of the fire incident from Mr Sichone that he the fuel tanker he was driving had caught fire after it developed a mechanical fault,” he said.

The police force reported that the officials reported to incident quickly and rushed to scene right after receiving the report. On arrival, the officials found that the horse and the tanker were in flames.

Commanding Officer Liywalii explained that the driver in the incident Sichone talked to the police force about the incident.

He revealed that he was alerted by another motorist about the fire and that he immediately jumped out of the truck before the fire spread and burnt the entire tanker.

“The driver was driving from East to West and when he reached Renamo area, he was alerted by his fellow motorist that his truck had caught fire,” he said.

The Police Chief disclosed that the driver was carrying a total of 44,000 litres of petrol which has been incinerated.

Commanding Officer Liywalii added that the petrol was loaded from Beira in Mozambique and that it was destined for Lusaka. He further disclosed that the driver escaped unhurt and reported the incident to the police force of the country.
