Mauritius: The newest centenarian of Mauritius Marie Lucile Lesurvenu has recently celebrated her birthday belatedly. The newest 100 year old elder of the nation was born on 13 September 1924 and celebrated her birthday on Saturday.
The officials have shared that the celebration of the milestone was attended by several members of the nation. One of notable guests was the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry.
The elder celebrated with her relatives and friends, on Saturday 14 September 2024 at Hotel de Ville de Curepipe. Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity hosted the birthday celebration to honour the new centenarian.
Lesurvenu received a number of gifts from the authorities of Mauritius including a cheque amounting to 26,203. The elder also received a centenarian medal; a bouquet; a mini oven; a gift from the Senior Citizens Council and more.
Mauritius Telecom provided the elder with a a special Telephone Service. Finally she received a cheque to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.
Lesurvenu was born to a self-employed cabinet maker and a housewife in Forest-Side. She had four brothers and two sisters and she is the only one to be still alive.
She has studied up to standard 6 and has always been a housewife. She had one daughter who unfortunately passed away at the age of 76 years. She now has 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The new centenarian has a strong faith in God and loves to pray. She used to attend mass in her local church regularly but cannot do so now as she is not able to move around by herself.
Marie Lucile moves with the help of a walking frame within the house but uses a wheelchair whenever she has to go outside. She has no major health problems but only suffers from old age incapacity.
Lesurvenu enjoys all kinds of food and fruits. She is always prompt in giving good advice to her nieces and grandchildren and always sticks to principles in her daily life.
She likes cleanliness and is very strict in keeping her surroundings tidy. Her secret for longevity is her strong faith in God, regular prayers and affection of her grandchildren.
