Mauritius: Marie Maud Lambert has celebrated her 100th birthday, on Saturday 14 December 2024, at Villa Dominos, Pointe aux Sables. In her celebration, she was accompanied by her family and friends.
Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity arranged the celebration.. The event was attended by several government officials and representatives.
On that occasion, the woman of the hour, Lambert received from the authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; a bouquet; a centenarian medal; a certificate; one microwave; a Special Telephone Service offered by Mauritius Telecom; gifts from the Senior Citizens Council.
She was also given a cheque worth Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund in honor of her 100th birthday milestone.
Marie Maud Lambert was born with the name Hattock-Ayen and was also known as Madam Lambert. She was born at Royal Road, Rose Hill in Mauritius on 10 December 1924. She grew up in Rose Hill and is of Roman Catholic faith. Mrs Lambert attended school up to standard six.
She can read and write Creole, English and French. Her father, Willy Hattock-Ayen worked as a “garnisseur”. He passed away in his eighties. Her mother, Marie Rosine Trepied was a housewife who also passed away in her eighties.
Lambert was the eldest sibling of eight brothers and six sisters, Only three of her brothers and three ofher sisters are still alive.
On 5 April 1941, at the age of 16, she married Lambert Louis Isaac, who was at the time 26 years old. She was a housewife while her husband worked as a primary school teacher. Isaac later passed away at the age of 69.
The couple were parents to eight children four of whom were boys and four girls. All eight children are currently alive. The 100 year old great grandmother has 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Moreover, she likes eating vegetables, chicken and fish. She gives the credit of her long and healthy life to her strong faith in God. She suffers from weakness associated with old age along with other usual complications.
