Mauritius: Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mahen Kumar Seeruttun launched an awareness Corner. The ingenious initiative aims to promote and protect the beauty and biodiversity of Mauritius.
The Awareness corner will be an important part of the Casela Nature Parks in Cascavelle. The members of the community have shared that that the awareness corner will be a welcome addition to the infrastructure.
The corner was launched in a brief ceremony on Wednesday, with several government and private stakeholders in attendance. The event was a collaborative effort between Casela Nature Parks and the NPCS.
The launch event also witnessed the release of ageing pink pigeons to Casela Nature Parks due to their inability to breed. This was followed by a tree planting ceremony to mark the occasion.
According to the official reports, certificates of participation were also given out to the staff members from Casela Nature Parks. They were applauded for successfully completing a one-week training on the care and feeding of pink pigeons.
Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security delivered a brief address at the event. In his address, he discussed the significance of the newly established Awareness Corner.
He said that which is designed to inform and educate visitors about ongoing conservation efforts in Mauritius. This initiative will showcase the work being done by the NPCS in areas such as conservation, restoration, and biodiversity protection.
According to him, the project is a key outcome of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018 with Casela Nature Parks. The MOU has facilitated numerous exchanges concerning Mauritius’ flora and fauna.
Minister Seeruttun also stressed that preserving Mauritius’ diverse biodiversity is a key Government priority due to its crucial role in the ecosystem. He assured that his Ministry provides robust support to institutions dedicated to this mission.
Furthermore, he also highlighted the importance of private-public sector collaboration in maintaining healthy habitats for all species. Accordingly, he said NPCS staff have undergone specialised training to ensure effective management and care of the species.
The event was attended by several members of the government including Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security. Two important guests included:

- General Manager of Casela Nature Parks, Thierry Arékion
