Mauritius: A collaborative painting initiative aimed at encouraging the population to work together to create a painting that would illustrate the unity and harmony prevailing in the country was launched in the context of the National Day Celebrations 2023 this morning by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage in Port Louis.
Hence, a canvas, measuring four metres in length and eight metres in height and bearing the logo design for the 55th Anniversary of the Independence and 31st Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius, has been placed in front of the Government Centre in Port Louis. Participants can choose from any of the four colours of the National Flag, that is, Red, Blue, Yellow and Green, for their hand painting and place their hand print on the canvas. Several artists are on site, from 09 00 hrs to 16 00 hrs, to assist in the hand painting of the canvas.
The Minister of Arts & Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck; the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cader Saib; and other personalities were present at the launching ceremony.
In a statement, Minister Teeluck invited every citizen to participate in this hand-painted collaborative art work, whose end result would depict the colours that make up the National Flag. According to the Minister, this event is part of a series of activities that would be held, not only in the context of the National Day Celebrations but throughout the year, in a bid to raise and spread feelings of patriotism among the population.
Mauritius President, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, attended, today at Dukesbridge school in Trianon, a Flag Raising Ceremony in the context of the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius and the 31st anniversary of the country’s accession to the status of Republic. On this occasion, the Flag of the Republic of Mauritius was hoisted to the top mast while all those present sang the National Anthem.
Addressing the students, President Roopun reminded us that the celebration of Independence Day, also known as National Day, is an important event for any country.
He seized this opportunity to encourage students to focus on their studies and develop good habits such as punctuality, teamwork, and sharing. These qualities, he stated, will help students to become better citizens of the future.
