Mauritius press hold meeting with U.S. expert journalist Nicholas Kralev

Mauritius: Effective diplomacy was at the fore of discussions this morning at a meeting between the United States (U.S.) expert journalist Nicholas Kralev and members of the Mauritian press at the Media Trust in Port-Louis.

The Spokesperson of the U.S. Embassy, Mr Jonathan Koehler, the Chairperson of the Media Trust, Mr Chayman Surajbali, and other personalities were also present.

In a statement, Mr Surajbali said that the talk was an initiative of the Embassy of the United States of America in collaboration with the Media Trust, which had as its objective to provide the Mauritian press with a platform to do exchanges and share new perspectives as regards diplomacy and journalism with the U.S. expert.

Speaking of diplomacy, the Chairperson underlined that it was an important subject, especially now when the world was witnessing growing conflicts. He encouraged members of the media to make the most of the meeting and to benefit from the exchanges.

During the meeting, Mr Kralev shared about his experiences as a former correspondent for the Financial Times, Washington Times, New York Times, Atlantic, and Foreign Policy.

He also shared, ” I have had the opportunity to witness the conduct of American diplomacy while accompanying four U.S. Secretaries of State on their travels around the world, including Mrs Hillary Clinton, Ms Condoleezza Rice, Mr Colin Powell and Ms Madeleine Albright,” he said.

Mr Nicholas Kralev is the founding Executive Director of the Washington International Diplomatic Academy, an independent organisation that provides practical professional training in diplomacy. He is also the author of ‘America’s Other Army: The U.S. Foreign Service and 21st-Century Diplomacy‘. He has a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University and speaks five languages.
