Cape Town: Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis attended the Tweede Nuwe Jaar parade and participated in its celebrations. He shared the video of him enjoying the event with the people present there.
While the video on his official social media page he expressed “Kaapse Klopse: What a beautiful day celebrating Cape Town’s unique and special heritage.” He said in African language that, “Dit was so lekker om soveel families en kinders te sien by die Tweede Nuwe Jaar!”; which when translated explains that it was so nice to see so many families and children at the Second New Year.
Lewis congratulated all the troupes who prepared so meticulously. He also told that the City of Cape Town has invested R6 million into the Kaapse Klopse, which is the largest share of the annual events support budget.
Considering this, the City of Cape Town has also shared the glimpses of Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis enjoying the vibrant Tweede Nuwe Jaar event. The city outlined that it is a celebration of culture, colour and community.
The streets of Cape Town came alive as the Minstrel Carnival filled the city with joyful music, vibrant costumes and unforgettable moments. They further stated that, from smiling faces to energetic performances, it was truly a fun-filled day for all ages. They thanked everyone who took part in keeping this proud Cape tradition alive.
Reportedly, the iconic Tweede Nuwe Jaar festival of Cape Town was observed on Monday, January 05, 2026 that reached to historic new heights. The event welcomed tens of thousands of spectators who walked along the parade route.
Also, the event was broadcasted live on national television for the first time on SABC-2 from 12:00 noon onwards. This annual event is widely regarded as the largest cultural festival of Africa, as the parade celebrates heritage, unity and the living of the Kaapse Klopse.
The street parade began at 11:00 a.m. which was later followed by various competitions, which were conducted at the DHL Stadium. It’s an annual event that entertains Capetonians with its vibrancy and enthusiasm.
